Question / Idea: Is SCP-008 capable of infecting non-human subjects such as a dog?

Background ResearchSCP-008 is a complex prion with several notable and dangerous anomalous properties. Traits include 100% infectiousness, 100% lethality, it is spread through exposed mucous membranes and all bodily fluids and is not airborne. Infection with SCP-008 essentially turns the infected subject into a braindead husk that will run towards and attack sounds, sights, and smells it perceives as coming from living humans. Although those infected undergo rapid cellular necrosis surviving tissue is highly resilient and subject requires significant cranial trauma to terminate.

Hypothesis: There is nothing to suggest that SCP-008's infectivity is mutually exclusive to humans and although it varies greatly from other prion diseases in its anomalous properties, many prions are able to affect most mammals. The dog will most likely be affected by SCP-008.

Observations: 1, 4 year old healthy adult female German shepherd in foundation custody was used as a subject for the test. The dog was brought to 008cc for testing. A sample of SCP-008 was taken and swabbed onto the tongue and throat of the dog. Subject was left in 008cc for several hours with no adverse symptoms apparent. Subject had no visual or behavioral signs of 008 infection after approximately 5 hours. Subject was brought to medbay for evaluation by medical staff. MS Blight performed an extensive veterinarian inspection of the subject and reported nothing out of the ordinary for a dog of that breed, age, and sex. All examination suggested that the subject was in perfectly healthy condition. No behavioral changes were detected in the dog who acted normally given the situation. A blood sample was taken and analyzed in the lab. All tests came back nominal for the subject and no 008 contamination was detected. The subject is currently under close foundation supervision and no symptoms have been reported in the last 72 hours since testing occurred.

Analysis / Conclusion: Due to the high complexity of 008 and our limited knowledge of how it works, it is hard to say exactly why the subject was not infected. Although many prion diseases affect both humans and animals it appears through this initial testing that at the least canine subjects are not affected by 008 and potentially other animals.

Was Your Hypothesis Correct?: No, the dog was not affected by the 008 prion despite other non anomalous document prion diseases affecting both humans and animals. It may be possible that SCP-008 was synthesized as a bio-weapon specifically designed to target and wipe out humans. Further study into this potential origin should be looked into.
