Identify the issue of lag (presumably server host) and fix it - Denied

What are you suggesting? - Fix the lag

How would this change better the server? - ppl wouldnt have high ping solely because of the server host. I know this suggestion comes off as crass, but it seems the unbearable lag pushes many ppl away from the server. I dont understand the caveats of the issue, but I am certain someone does. I personally have never played on a server with such high ping on gmod. As someone (an NA based person) who gets 50 ping on European rust servers and 30 in NA, I am certain it isnt an issue on my end. I dont expect the ping to be great on a gmod server or be on par with the ping I receive on other games, but I am almost certain it is possible to improve since I have played on gmod servers with 100+ ppl, many addons, and hosted in europe with less than 100 ping.

Are there any disadvantages of making this change to the server? If so, explain. - no

Who would this change mostly benefit? - everyone

Please link any workshop content, screenshots, or anything that you think may be helpful to those who view this suggestion - N/A

The issue of lag isn't the server host, it's the 800 unused custom classes that have several hundred dollar "OOC" playermodels such as Eta-10 having a literal fucking anime girl with jiggle physics. And instead of removing unused CC's, because Gaminglight is a business, they auction off these CC's (and yet somehow 80% of these CC's I still have NEVER seen on the server in over a year of playing). Some of these models literally have missing textures.

Honestly I think they just need to put these unused CC's into some sort of archive and if the owner comes back and complains about it then they can just add the CC back to the server. (Although I have no clue how Gaminglight adds CC's, so maybe this just isn't possible)

Yeah the problem with all the CCs that at this point, most of them are an anominous blob, Becuse most of them are super similar to each other, and after a few days you can’t tell which CC you saw. And which you didn’t. So when one CC comes online, it’s like 3 or 5 came online. So and when now the wrong CC is removed due to inactivity even when wrongful, the Owner has to pay to get it reactivated and get its stuff back, which cost him money.

Guys please fix lag. how? I don't know I think you gotta flip the lag switch off.

Just do it smh, its easy fr fr

Ok but seriously, SMT+ is already working into improving the Servers performance, they recently removed like 3 GB? idk exactly but was a lot, so this type of suggestion is kinda pointless, as the time goes on improvements to performance will come.

Yeah, server performance somehow got worse after the so called performance update. I would hedge my bets that they removed 3 gb to add 5 gb worth of nonsense. Now regard rule 14 you slum living degenerates. Just -support if you think I mean some lag switch.

Dont disregard rule 14!!!!!

+support?

The ungodly amount of workshop content alone (10GB+ btw) could be a contributor, but I'm contributing it more to specific addons doing unoptimized things with players, memory leak, or something else of the sort. Addons alone being on the server are unlikely to be the major cause, the contents of which and how they are used are more likely to be the case than anything else. As I'm sure we all have seen, it is most common that when the server hits 110+, it begins dying later rather than instantly. I'm not sure if it's a CPU, memory, or any other issue, but I'm positive there's more than a few addons that are doing unoptimized things with players or a massive amount of unnecessary networking.

The issue is how much server content there is in combination with high player count and an unoptimized old engine (Source) the server can tend to die at times.

In my personal opinion, if a CC is not played on for a time period of 6 months (possibly less) then it and all its content should be deleted from the server. It could be a case that the data gets stored and the original owner can pay to have it re-added to the server but I think we should have a maximum of 100 CCs. Once those slots are full that is it, no more can be added. This will also drive up price for auctioning new CCs and you can have a condensed market.

We also have a map that is close to the theoretical limit to have big and detailed a map can be for GMOD. That causes some more stress on the server.

TLDR: Give CCs a 100 number cap. CCs not used for 6 months get deleted until there are only 100 left then they go to auction.

No, the lag is a feature of the Gmod experience.

But seriously, since the creation of this post several optimizations have been made that have received very positive feedback. Additionally, when making a suggestion, please try to give solutions, not list problems without any form of plan. Effectively stating "fix the lag" does little to help us do anything. I assure you that we are not sitting here with a lag slider in the Q menu.
