General Suggestion - Only being able to see that people on your team can hear you. - Denied

What are you suggesting?

Whenever people speak, in the left side of their screen it says who can hear them. This is constantly used to power / metagame, and that's understandable because this is impossible to avoid. A way to fix this would be to allow you to only see members of your respective team that can hear you.

For example: A CI is being watched by a Zeta-6 because he is waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike, the CI speaks, notices that the Zeta-6 can hear him, and begins looking around and closing doors behind him to ensure the Zeta-6 can't get the jump on him, the Zeta-6 attempts to engage the CI and gets killed because the CI is prepared.

With these changes, a new situation happens: A CI is being watched by a Zeta-6 because he is waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike, the CI speaks and doesn't notice the Zeta-6 at all, leading him to attempt to use his Keypad Cracker on a door, the Zeta-6 gets a headshot on him and the CI dies.

This creates a much more realistic scenario and makes it more fun to play, and can work with any situation. This makes the combat much more fun.

A proposal for these "teams" that can hear each-other are below.

Foundation - MTF, GENSEC, Research, Maintenance, Medical, D-Class

Chaos - CI, D-Class, Maynard

Sarkic - Sarkic, D-Class

How would this change better the server?

Raids become much more intense, Cloakers are able to use more actual strategy when fighting someone, and combat overall becomes more fun (especially with the TTK being worked on)

Are there any disadvantages of making this change to the server? If so, explain.

Cloaking classes become a lot more powerful, but this metagaming / powergaming shouldn't be happening in the first place. Additionally, this may be difficult to implement (This would probably have to be hard coded)

Who would this change mostly benefit?

All combatant branches

One more disadvantage would be to staff. Sometimes people use this to see who is saying so something they aren't suppose to in clips.

Other than that, it really doesn't matter. So I wouldn't miss it. You would need to make sure to do this for both voice and text chat.

To be honest, I'm not sure we really need to see who can hear us at all. The one time I find it useful is figuring out if I'm within text range but even then that's a minor benefit when there's more to gain by getting rid of it tbh.

You should also be able to hear the foundation like Research/Utility because he is a foundation personnel in rp

It wouldn't allow me to put a link in here so you are stuck with this

That's one tough thing to hard code mate and will definitely not be worth it. Considering how many jobs would have to added to a specific team on-top of constant branch updates which add/remove jobs on-top of custom classes? This would literally be updated too frequently.

Considerable effort for little benefit in my opinion. If someones doing that just report them.

Legit just change the swep, this wasn’t an issue with the old 966 invisibility, I’m sure it’ll be much easier to code whatever the old swep had into the new one.

we cant code it into the new swep bc if we do, then thermals stop working on 966, so its basically a toss up between do we want a few ppl meta gaming or want to remove thermals working on 966 and cloaked players.

Also this ^ I have no clue how you would go about this, gmod voice system is pretty shit and without a rewrite of the entire system I dont believe we could do this.

the only problem i see is that it makes our job (as staff) much more difficutl trying to see who said what.  if someone starts saying slurs, it'll be much more difficult to see who said what and issue punishments accordingly.  +/-support
